This seminar will
detail the three stages of infant brain development in relationship
to a caregiver. Different parts of the infant’s
brain develop sequentially, and are related to a sense of fear,
the establishment of a midline, and the self regulation of emotions
and the autonomic nervous system. This has important implications
in biodynamic practice. Concurrent with infant brain development,
the cranial base continues to undergo significant structural
and functional modifications for the first six years after birth.
Students will learn how the cranial base is a reflection of the
face, palate and pharynx.
Biodynamic approaches to working with
infants and children will be taught, especially the social nervous
system, the suck-swallow-breathe reflex and the relationship
of the attachment and bonding process between an infant and caregiver.
The adult therapeutic relationship in biodynamic practice will
be demonstrated to be similar.
Educational Objectives:
- To study how touch is processed in an infant’s brain and carried forward through life
- To work biodynamically with
the implications of Caesarian section
- To differentiate attunement from
physical contact in biodynamic practice
- To relate to coherence in the top down self-regulation
of emotions in the prefrontal cortex
- To understand the metabolic function
of the therapeutic relationship
- To work with the external Stillpoint/Dynamic
Stillness
- To biodynamically form a body
image through skin to skin contact.
Class Prerequisites:
- Reading will be assigned from Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy,
Volumes 1 and 2 by Michael J. Shea, PhD.
- Students wishing to participate
in the remaining segments must take this class or have completed
a Foundation Training in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.
